How do you know you’re sad? That was one of the first questions I got asked in my therapy sessions and has become the center of a profound realization. How do we know we feel the way we do?
Maybe it seems like it should be obvious. I’m happy. But how do you know? There must be some signature of the emotion somewhere in your body. In fact there are physical sensations associated with emotions.
The therapy I get is focused on this type of body sensing and parts therapy.
It follows closely what I have read in “The Body Keeps the Score,” a book by Bessel Van der Kolk.
